Wisdom From Divorce: The World Is A Scary Place After Divorce

March 30, 2014 By Mandy Walker

Divorce often means living by yourself afterwards and if you’ve never done this before or it’s been a long time, then learning to take care of yourself can be quite intimidating:

I was one of those people who moved out of their parents’ house and into their husband’s. I didn’t learn to take care of myself. I was in school the whole time. I had a job during summers but it wasn’t a necessity. If I had a problem, something broke, somebody else would fix it. One of the biggest changes was that I had to learn all of that and at first, it seemed to me that the world was a scary place. ~ Heather-Marie

Heather-Marie met her husband when she was fifteen, he was five years older than her. They married when she was eighteen and were married for seven years. The world was a scary place at first after her divorce but Heather-Marie soon found that it was full of opportunities and she was surrounded by life.

Living alone, taking on the tasks your spouse used to do can be daunting but remember, just because you don’t know how to do them, doesn’t mean you’re stupid. You simply have had the experience. It just takes an open mind and practice.
