Feeling good about yourself is an important part of divorce recovery. A good portion of that comes from accepting and liking who you are both emotionally and physically. Physically it might mean losing weight, getting a new hair cut or even having cosmetic surgery:
When I was in high school, I broke my nose and I’ve always wanted to get it fixed. But husband wouldn’t “allow it.” He didn’t think it was a priority. Now I’m on my own, I’m going to finally fix it.
Mary was divorced in her late forties after a twenty-plus year marriage. Mary was the breadwinner in the marriage and was very successful. They certainly had the money for this surgery. The fact that she never felt able to spend the money to get her nose fixed is an example of how many us aren’t able to make our own needs a priority and that’s an important life lesson. Mary’s story of her new nose is an audio piece – I hope you’ll listen to it and enjoy it.
Are you making yourself a priority?
