I’m interrupting LA Single Mama’s story for another important story. This story is about Mindy of Single Mom Says. Mindy has been trying to get Bank of America to modify her mortgage and Bank of America is dragging its feet, to put it mildly. Mindy wonders if it’s Corrupt or Just Grossly Incompetent.
Mindy was tweeting last week that she didn’t know if was going to be able to keep her house now and that she’d contacted various media outlets to get some publicity, all aimed at just getting Bank of America to act. I was able to put her in touch with Maeve Conran, one of the news directors at KGNU- Boulder/Denver (88.5 FM, 1390 AM) and Maeve put together this report. Please listen – this isn’t just about Mindy – Mindy is the poster child for what is happening so many people and I do think single parents are especially vulnerable.
What I find particularly galling about this story is that Mindy is an existing customer of Bank of America and I can’t find a single shred of evidence that the company cares. She would get more attention if she wasn’t making her mortgage payments but that would hurt her credit rating and the executives know that.
And as for saying she doesn’t qualify for XYZ programs? I say the company shouldn’t need the federal government to tell it what the morally right thing is to do. Bank of America should be leading the charge to help its customers stay in their homes. If that means lowering the profit margins, then so be it.
Mindy is hoping that she can still work something out and I hope she can too. But imagine if Bank of America had processed her application correctly the first time – she might still have savings, she wouldn’t have the credit card debt she now has. Do you think they will refund her the excess interest she’s paid over the last few months because of their delay?
No, of course not. It’s Mindy’s 40th birthday coming up and we’re trying to fund a fun getaway weekend for her. She’s earned a birthday celebration for dealing with this. If you can help her out, you’ll find all the details over at Pippi: Girl Friday, Pay it Forward.

Thanks so much Mandy!
It has been quite an experience, to say the least, and six months later I'm still trying to get it sorted out but the outlook has become pretty grim. Hopefully B of A will step up, if not in time for me, maybe for some other struggling single parents.
I want B of A to do this for YOU. I want you and your girls to be able to stay in your home. I hope it happens.
Thank you for getting the ball rolling on this Mandy! You rock!
I hope it makes a difference.
